The 71st Miss Universe pageant, Miss Universe 2022, will take place on January 14, 2023, in the New Orleans Morial Convention Center in New Orleans, Louisiana, United States. At the eagerly awaited competition, Miss Universe 2021 Harnaaz Sandhu from India will chosen her successor.
This year’s pageant is expected to feature competitors from over 84 different nations. Olivia Culpo, Miss Universe 2012, who also hosted the Miss Universe 2020 competition, and Jeannie Mai, who most recently served as a backstage host for Miss Universe 2014, will host the pageant. Catriona Gray, the 2018 Miss Universe, and Zuri Hall are scheduled to work as backstage reporters.
The competition will have an all-female presenting panel for the first time in its 70-year history. Bhutan will make its debut in 2022, and nations like Angola, Belize, Indonesia, Lebanon, Kyrgyzstan, Malaysia, Saint Lucia, Myanmar, Seychelles, Trinidad and Tobago, Switzerland, and Uruguay will make their comebacks. Seychelles last competed in 1995, hence this edition marks their return to competition after a 27-year hiatus.
The most recent competitions were held by Trinidad and Tobago in 2017, Lebanon, Kyrgyzstan, and Switzerland in 2018, Angola and Saint Lucia in 2019, and the others in 2020. Following the failure of their respective organisations to host a national competition or elect a delegate, Hungary, Denmark, Ireland, Kenya, Israel, Romania, Morocco, and Sweden withdrew.
After a series of disagreements between Diana Tashimbetova and the Kazakhstani licence holder on the lack of support Tashimbetova received from them for her participation at Miss Universe, Tashimbetova was deposed and was not replaced by the Kazakhstani licensing holder.
Miss Universe 2023 is R’Bonney Gabriel from the United States. In a lavish ceremony held on Sunday morning, India’s Harnaaz Sandhu, who gained the beauty contest crown in 2022, announced the new Miss Universe. Divita Rai, an Indian, reached the top 16, however she was unable to advance.
